Equine Assisted Interaction and Learning
Equine therapy originated more than 2,000 years ago in Ancient Greece. Greek physician Hippocrates wrote about horse-assisted therapy as a therapeutic form of exercise. Hippocrates once spoke of “riding’s healing rhythm”. Early Greeks were reported to offer horseback rides to raise the spirits of people who had incurable illnesses.
Equine therapy has been used to treat anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, addiction, depression and many other mental health conditions as well as targeting such things as building self confidence, self-awareness and empathy. It may also be used to address life changes such as grief. Offering a much different approach than traditional talk therapy. Equine therapy or interaction brings people outdoors and offers opportunities to use all of their senses while learning and processing emotional challenges.
